Sucheta Lahiri

Sucheta is a Ph.D. student at the iSchool. She conducts ethnographic research that explores the risks of data-science failure in the Global South, with a particular focus on the complexities of cloud technology partnerships and sociotechnical systems. Her academic interests span feminist studies, responsible AI, and ethical data science.
Before transitioning into academia, Sucheta led the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team at Deutsche Bank in India, where she played a pivotal role in managing corporate risk. Over her 12-year industry career, she gained diverse expertise in Risk Management, Knowledge Management, Pre-Sales, and Equities, working with major institutions like Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan, Deloitte, and IBM. During her doctoral program, Sucheta also secured highly competitive internships in Risk Management at Bloomberg LP in New York City for three consecutive years, further expanding her expertise in data management and data classification.
She holds a master’s degree in Applied Statistics from Banaras Hindu University and another in Information Science from the Indian Statistical Institute.
When not immersed in her research, Sucheta enjoys experimenting with culinary creations or spending quality time with friends. A trained Hindustani classical singer, Sucheta also had a corporate music band during her time at Deutsche Bank.
