Jeffrey RubinThe School of Information Studies at Syracuse University is proud to announce that Jeffrey Rubin, Syracuse University’s inaugural Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer, will address the iSchool Class of 2026 at this year’s Convocation Ceremony.

Rubin is a technology-driven executive and educator with more than 30 years of experience across digital media, artificial intelligence, and networked systems. In his current role, he leads the University’s digital transformation efforts, advancing the integration of AI, cloud computing, and next-generation connectivity to enhance the student experience, support research, and strengthen institutional decision-making.

Under Rubin’s leadership, Syracuse has been recognized as the Nation’s Most Connected Campus. His work has supported the rollout of enterprise AI tools for faculty and staff, the development of AI-enabled academic programs, and the creation of data-driven platforms that improve student success and operational effectiveness.

A longtime member of the iSchool faculty and alumnus, Rubin brings a unique perspective that blends industry experience with a deep understanding of the student journey. Prior to his role at Syracuse, he founded SIDEARM Sports, growing it from a one-person startup into the nation’s leading digital fan engagement platform for college athletics, now supporting more than 95% of NCAA Division I programs. Following its acquisition by Learfield in 2014, he continued to lead the company as president and later served as Executive Vice President of Digital for LEARFIELD. In 2023, he received the Keith Jackson Eternal Flame Award for his contributions to intercollegiate athletics.

“Jeff brings a powerful combination of industry leadership, entrepreneurial experience, and a deep commitment to our students,” says Interim Dean Jeff Hemsley. “As both an innovator and educator, he has played a key role in shaping how technology is used across our University. We are excited for our graduates to learn from his experience as they take their next steps.”

“I’m honored to return to the iSchool stage and celebrate this incredible group of graduates,” says Rubin. “This is a moment defined by rapid change in technology, especially in AI, and I’m excited to share perspectives on how they can lead, build, and shape what comes next.”
