The Decision
After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from India and gaining 3.5 years of professional experience, I was eager to further develop my technical skills in Data Science. My journey began with extensive research into Data Science programs offered by various universities. Among them, the Applied Data Science program at Syracuse University’s iSchool stood out due to its comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum. This program’s focus on multiple facets of Data Science immediately captured my interest.
The renowned programs and strong alumni network at Syracuse University offered the perfect environment for my professional growth and skill enhancement. I was confident that this decision would open doors to new opportunities and propel my career forward.
A New Beginning in Syracuse
Arriving in Syracuse was a blend of excitement and apprehension. My first day at Syracuse University was memorable, with the vibrant orange and blue colors of the campus loop contrasting beautifully against the refreshing green hills. This picturesque view felt like stepping into a fantasy land, quickly transforming my anxiety into eager anticipation for what lay ahead. Moving into my apartment, I experienced a profound sense of independence and responsibility. The diverse and welcoming community here has been instrumental in helping me settle in, providing a strong sense of belonging and unwavering support.
Balancing Life and Studies
Working as a Graduate Ambassador and at the JMA Dome – Food Concessions has been a cornerstone of my on-campus experience. As a Graduate Ambassador, I guide incoming students through their concerns, finding fulfillment in helping them transition smoothly into university life. My role at the JMA Dome has provided countless opportunities to network with seniors and peers from various departments during events, significantly enriching my university experience.
These roles have sharpened my time management skills, challenging me to balance my part-time job with assignments, projects, mid-terms, final exams, and daily responsibilities. This demanding schedule has transformed me into an independent and resilient individual, capable of managing multiple tasks with confidence and efficiency.
Community and Support
As an international student, maintaining health and well-being is crucial. The support from seniors, who have guided me through everything from groceries to banking and mobile plans to apartment hunting, has been invaluable. Their assistance has provided moral support, making my transition smoother.
Academic and Professional Growth
At the iSchool, I have immersed myself in courses that challenge and expand my knowledge. The faculty and resources available have been exceptional, providing me with the tools needed to succeed in the field of Data Science. Engaging with the iSchool community has also opened numerous professional development opportunities.
