Experience how some of the world’s largest and most innovative companies are employing technology. This 16-day seminar in Asia will start in Hong Kong and go through Singapore, Malaysia, and end up in Bangkok.

Explore Asia while experiencing Technology in Action.

This course provides the opportunity to see technologies in action at some of the most successful organizations in the world. Students will have free time to explore each city on their own, as well as visit cultural attractions as a group.

AsiaTech students must register and take IST 350/650 for 3 credits in the spring semester. This course will provide opportunities to experience first-hand how technology and information provide strategic advantages for several corporations as well as many non-commercial organizations.

The innovative use of information technology is a key element of success in the global economy. How organizations use information technology to address global technology challenges will be explored.

Class size is limited to 30 students. Any matriculated undergraduate or graduate student is eligible to apply.

Chris Dunham is an assistant teaching professor in Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in data science, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and deep learning. He is also a data scientist with the New York State Wastewater Surveillance Network, where he applies data science methods to operations and research in wastewater-based epidemiology. Before joining the iSchool faculty, Chris served as director of research and decision support for enrollment at Syracuse University and worked in market research consulting.

Students register for and take this three-credit class during the spring semester.

  • SU undergraduates pay no additional tuition charge, as long as they have not exceeded the 19-credit limit for the semester.
  • Graduate students pay the per-credit tuition charge for this three-credit class.

The cost for the travel portion of the course is approximately $5,600 and includes:

  • Round-trip transportation from a U.S. airport to Asia
  • Housing
  • Some group meals
  • Transportation between cities
  • Entrance fees to attractions visited by the group
  • Activities and services for which a separate fee is not charged

The final travel fee will be set once airfare and other expenses have been confirmed. Financial aid is available.

Students must submit the short-term application and a $50 non-refundable application fee to SU Abroad by Oct. 15, 2026.

  • Within 10 days of acceptance: $575 non-refundable deposit due to confirm participation
