Saklain Zaman is a Ph.D. student at the iSchool. His research addresses the surge of retracted articles in academic literature, aiming to enhance the gatekeeping of the scientific knowledge base and ensure the integrity and reliability of scholarly publications. Saklain is particularly concerned with the challenges posed by the increasing presence of low-quality research and the difficulty in assessing the credibility of scientific writing. His work is deeply grounded in linguistic theory to examine how linguistic structures, syntax, semantics, and discourse patterns can influence perceptions of reliability in academic publications. Saklain has a background in software engineering and obtained his B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Dhaka. Through quantitative approaches, Saklain seeks to develop more effective, data-driven strategies for evaluating the trustworthiness of academic writings and mitigating the impact of unreliable studies on the scientific community.
